Get yourself a box of tissues for this read: We are excited to present Junne and Jena for adoption! These brown-eyed beauties are almost identical sisters. Our best guess is that they are some sort of Australian Shepherd/Collie mix. They are medium-sized, about 45 pounds each, and both approximately 1.5 years old.

Jena and Junne were unfortunately (to absolutely no fault of their own) dumped at a very high kill shelter in New Mexico and were not likely to make it out alive as the shelter was at max capacity. To make matters worse these mamas were also dumped with 10 nursing puppies between the two of them. Both girls were underweight, with rough coats from pregnancy and lack of nutrition. Despite their condition and circumstances these excellent mamas were raising little fat, fluffy, healthy, and happy puppies, whom they adored. The 12 of them were sharing one cramped cement kennel where they all awaited their fate.

Thanks to an incredible team of fosters, drivers, and other volunteers these 12 souls made it out of New Mexico and were brought to Utah to be placed in foster care! Junne and Jena said one last goodbye to their babies and went into separate foster care. Our broken hearts so wish this story didn’t take the turn that it did. Junne and Jena’s babies did not get the preventative medical care that they needed before coming to Rescue Rovers and contracted a particularly nasty strain of parvovirus. Despite donations, excellent veterinary care, and around-the-clock eyes on them from incredible volunteer nurses, most of these sweet babies did not survive. They were given every fighting chance, and we are grateful that at the very least they passed where they were in a warm cozy bed, safe, with so much love and so many people rooting for them, instead of passing at the stressful and scary shelter because they were unwanted.

On a happier note, Junne and Jena did not contract Parvovirus! These shy girls were most likely not treated very well by humans and have been very hungry and in survival mode for much of their lives. Even with what they have been through they are thriving in their foster home! They are getting plenty to eat and are learning to just be happy, care-free dogs. They are getting amazing socialization almost daily with lots of people and other dogs. They both love to play and love people so so much.

Junne is the one pictured with mostly tan on her back and a little bit more white on her face. She is the shyer one, when first coming to her foster home she would crawl up to everyone with very squinty eyes and a waggly tail just begging for some love. She has been coming out of her shell beautifully. When she occasionally feels a little nervous about something new or a loud noise, she quietly sneaks off to lie in her crate for a little while, where she feels safe. She loves to come up to people particularly who are sitting down and put her paws on them asking for some pets. She loves to romp around with other dogs, wrestling and playing chase. She is somewhat more submissive with other dogs although she will stick up for herself if she needs to. She has also been seen educating less mature dogs on their manners, in a very motherly fashion.  

Jena is mostly white on her back with a big spot and a little less white on her face. Although Jena can be a bit shy here and there, she is certainly the bolder one of the two. Jena always wants to play with all the other dogs and loves to run! Like Junne, Jena also likes to put her paws on the people she loves. She especially likes to come into her foster mom’s room in the morning to sweetly put her paws on her and let her know she would like to go outside, eat breakfast, and be loved.

Junne and Jena are both wonderful in their crates. Jena would prefer to be out and about with the pack than in her crate and can whine a tiny bit at first but settles in with no problems. These girls are big fans of their fluffy beds and don’t chew on them, they have not been destructive in the house either. They have been known to try and eat food off the counter, more so when they first came into foster care, but we don’t blame them one bit and gently tell them no when we’ve seen it and they’ve already improved. They don’t have accidents in the house and are great at using the dog door or asking to go out. Although we haven’t seen these girls around cats, they could likely adjust to a cat roommate with no problem. They love kids but can be a little intimidated by loud kids running at them, they would probably do best with a baby or gentle kids who can be calm around a new dog.
