Quintessential and utterly perfect sums up this sweet man. Fair warning, this is a gushing description of how wonderful Dumbo is.

Dumbo is a 4 year old 100+ pound Great Dane. True to his breed in every way, Dumbo is a gentle giant with a demeanor that makes it easy for him to get along with any animal. Dumbo was raised on a farm and spent a lot of his time roaming on his own. You would never guess it though since he is so smitten with the indoors, specifically the cozy beds and easy access to cuddles. He is potty trained and hasn’t had any accidents, although we’re still working on being alerted when he isn’t tethered.

When outside, Dumbo will trot around and frequently check in with his handler. He has shown that he is very loyal and his foster mom believes he will form a very quick bond with his new person/family. Taking Dumbo on a walk while leashed is a breeze. He will gently trot along side you and responds very well to gentle guidance. Just watch your balance because if he bumps into while walking you may get a little wobbly!

Dumbo hasn’t seemed to know basic commands, but while “sit” and “down” may be a learning curve, socializing with new friends is something he already excels at. Because of his farm days he is friendly around livestock and has lived with other household pets like cats and dogs. While in foster, Dumbo has been around many dogs and keeps calm around more dominant personalities. He currently lives with a cat and is very sweet with her.

Dumbo does have a little separation anxiety that sometimes manifests with shadowing and whining when he doesn’t have access to you but he is not destructive, and he does settle. He’s had a lot of change in his life and should gain that confidence back in no time. It is unknown if he is crate trained as he is too large for the crate in his foster home, however, he has done well left out alone during the workday.
