Hello, my name is Mr. Wednesday and I’m looking for my forever home!
I’m a German Shepherd Dog and I’m about a year and a half old. I was bred to be a perfect specimen of GSD…but my (backyard) breeder didn’t actually know how to do that! So I ended up with a droopy eye and bad hips, but Rescue Rovers and my foster family have taken amazing care of me!
My foster mom took me all the way to Sun Valley Idaho to have my hip replaced by a specialist! Lots of you nice people donated money so we could do that, and I’m so thankful that you did. I can run and play with my foster siblings now and I don’t have to take pain medication anymore because my new hip works great! And my mom says I’m bionic now, which is about the coolest thing ever!
If you google German Shepherd characteristics you get a pretty great list of traits. Curious, alert, watchful, obedient, confident, courageous, loyal and intelligent. I am all of those things! I am also playful and goofy. I’ve been with my foster family a long time, which has given them ample opportunity to fall in love with me, and they have! They tell me I am such a good boy and that they will find the BEST forever home for me. I will be sad to leave them, but I am looking forward to my own forever.
Here’s all the stuff about me, good and bad.
I am totally house trained and kennel trained. I sleep in my kennel at night and stay there during the day when my people have to leave. I love my kennel and sometimes hang out in there with the door open. I have pretty good recall and I walk well on leash. I know “sit” and I am learning “down”. I am great with other dogs and love to play with my foster siblings, big and small (especially now that I can run and leap like they do!) Like many GSD’s I am a barker – if I hear or see something or when I’m playing, but not without reason. I am also a shedder! Just a regular amount for most of the year, but in the springtime when I blow my coat – watch out! My winter coat is way fluffy, when it’s warm I’m much more sleek…at least after I lose all that extra fur. My foster family had me groomed recently so my Spring shed is done now, and I don’t mind being brushed, which helps a lot. But if dog hair around the house is a turn off for you I may not be your perfect match. I like kids a lot. My foster kids are older, but I’ve met some little kids and was nice to them. I was a little mouthy when I first came to my foster family, and still am at times, but I just need someone to continue teaching me that’s not acceptable play.
As far as my droopy eye goes, it’s no big deal. It’s called micropthalmia and it doesn’t hurt me or affect me and there’s no treatment necessary, it’s just something that makes me unique! And anyway, if my eye was perfect I’d really be TOO handsome, and I don’t want to make the other dogs feel bad about themselves ;) My eye is how I got my name, btw. Like Odin. Get it?
My perfect forever family would have a fenced yard, another dog for me to play with and a plan to train me. Because my foster mom says I’m a super great dog and I have so much potential and training would be so good for me.
